Twitter Users Blast Yvonne Nelson For Blaming The ‘Sex for Mark’ Scandal On Female Nudity

Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson posted a tweet today in reaction to the sex for grade scandal and this has earned her brutal criticisms from Twitter users who think she’s being a hypocrite.

The Ghanaian actress, while reacting to the scandal, seemed to be laying the blame on women for not covering their bodies properly.

She wrote: “Sex for grades! Sex for jobs! Sex for everything in our part of the world! Your brains dont matter here.

It’s the covered parts they want, oh wait, these parts arent covered anymore…its free on social media. Will it ever change??”

Twitter users called her out for her tweet and reminded her that she too has been known to expose her body yet that doesn’t give anyone the right to take advantage of her.

BBC Journalist Who Went Undercover To Expose Lecturers Begins Receiving Death Threats

Kiki Mordi, the BBC journalist who went undercover to expose university lecturers guilty of sex for grades, has started receiving death threats from people angry about the exposé.

Kiki, who said she was herself a victim of sexual harassment in the university and didn’t graduate, said on Monday that the project was inspired by her personal story.

She revealed that she has begun receiving threats following the investigation, which saw her and other undercover female journalists secretly filming randy lecturers in Unilag and University of Ghana as they used their positions to demand sex from young ladies in order to favour them academically. However, she added that she is not bothered by those threats because the BBC takes the security of employees very seriously.

She told Sahara Reporters: “I have received subtle threats since this work was completed but I am not bothered because the BBC takes the security of employees seriously.

“Before embarking on this project, the team prayed a lot and also sang because it helped to calm the nerves.

“But I had to go through the trainings I received over and over again because I wanted to get it right.

“The bulk of the ritual I performed were reading, research and preparation.

“The biggest goal of this work was to be louder than the aggressor because sexual harassment is very loud. I wanted it to be silenced.

“I am happy that a lot is changing already since the documentary was release and I can confirm to you that one of the lecturers at the University of Lagos caught sexually harassing a prospective student has been dismissed by the institution.

“I believe it doesn’t stop there until there is a conviction. We have to break that culture of impunity.”

Nicki Minaj Speaks Out On The Death of Joshua Brown Who Was Killed After He Testified Against Botham Jean’s Killer, Amber Guyger

Entertainment Gists

Botham Jean’s neighbour who testified against Amber Guyger was recently killed in a drive-by shooting and Nicki Minaj has reacted to this by calling out the Jean family.

Joshua Brown was a key witness in the murder of Botham Jean and he took to the witness stand to narrate what happened when ex-Dallas cop Amber Guyger gained access to Botham Jean’s house, claiming she thought it was her apartment, and shot him dead.

After Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in jail, Joshua Brown was killed in a drive-by shooting by unknown gunmen who are still at large.

Dallas police responded to a call for a shooting at the Atera Apartments complex around 10:30 p.m. Friday, October 4, police told CNN. When they arrived the scene, they saw Brown lying on the ground of the apartment parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to a statement from Dallas police.

Witnesses told police they heard several gunshots and saw a silver, four-door sedan speed out of the parking lot, police said.

Reacting to the shooting, web users suggested Brown’s death was not an accident and most likely had something to do with him testifying against Guyger. They called out Botham’s family for forgiving and hugging Guyger in court, meanwhile, Joshua Brown’s life was taken for standing up for Botham.

A Twitter user reacted to Brown’s death, writing: “Man sacrificed his life fkn w/ tht witness stand & Bothem family was all in the courtroom suckin Guyger’s dick. I hate this entire situation.”

And Nicki Minaj replied, writing: “I wonder if they were hugging on him after he got off that stand the way they were all boo hoo cryin, hugging on the murderer. Talk about a slap in the face. Go hug on his fatherless child now. He should’ve let y’all suffer & minded his business. This is heartbreaking. RIP.”

Singer Falz is currently trending on Nigerian Twitter over the #SexForGrades documentary.

Popular Nigerian feminist, Ozzy Etomi, took to her Twitter handle to ask why singer, Falz has not spoken since the #SexForGrades documentary was released by BBC yesterday.

Recall that Falz came under heat in January this year after the release of his song, ”Moral Instructor”. Falz used the song to speak against ”transactional sex.”

In a private listening session of the song, Falz explained why he criticizes women who have sex and expect money in return. He said he hates transactional as it leads to the objectification of women.

Ozzy in her tweet posted last night, asked why Falz hasn’t said anything about the documentary

”Where is Falz. A topic he’s passionate about has been trending all day and we haven’t heard a peep” she tweeted

See reactions from Nigerians below…

Ozzy has however come out to say she was only being sarcastic when she asked Falz to comment on the documentary

The Best Untitled Goose Game Memes

Untitled Goose Game has become such a phenomenon that even if you’ve never picked up a Nintendo product in your life, it’s likely infiltrated your life somehow. Developed by Australian company House House, the humble indie game is brilliant in its simplicity: You play a goose with a checklist of tasks to complete around a neighborhood. You are not popular with the townsfolk, as the majority of your chores involve stealing from them and trapping them in garages or telephone booths. You haul away their produce to have yourself a little picnic. You pose as a goose statue to trick its owner into tying a pretty bow around your neck. You honk so loudly that a child drops his glasses and blindly replaces them with a pair of knockoff Ray-Bans that you, of course, stole.

It’s hilarious, challenging, and thanks to its pastel color scheme, strangely relaxing. Gamers are so into it that the title has surpassed hugely popular games like The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Maker 2 to make it to the top of Nintendo Switch’s bestseller list. To play it is to love it, and to love it is to apparently create fan art, memes, and poetry about it. Ahead, I’ve rounded up a selection of the greatest goose-centric Tweets, Instagrams, and Reddit posts I’ve come across. Go ahead and grab your grocery basket, we’re going shopping (for memes).

Judge Explains Why She Hugged Ex-Dallas Cop Amber Guyer And Gave Her A Bible in Court After Sentencing Her For Murder

Foreign

By  |

Earlier this month, former Dallas police officerAmber Guyer was sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting her unarmed neighbor she mistook him for a burglar.

After her sentencing on  Wednesday, October 2, the victim Botham Jean’s brother Brandt Jean embraced her in the courtroom after he announced he has forgiven her.

But Dallas judge Tammy Kemp who was in charge of the case was widely criticized by legal experts and the public after she embraced Guyger and gave her a Bible at the end of Guyger’s murder trial.

Explaining why she did it,  she said the former cop asked her for a hug and for help-seeking God’s forgiveness.

Kemp told The Associated Press that she believed her actions were appropriate since Guyger said she didn’t understand how to begin seeking God’s forgiveness for killing accountant Botham Jean, 26.

“She asked me if I thought that God could forgive her and I said, ‘Yes, God can forgive you and has,’” Kemp said. “If she wanted to start with the Bible, I didn’t want her to go back to the jail and to sink into doubt and self-pity and become bitter. Because she still has a lot of life ahead of her following her sentence and I would hope that she could live it purposefully.”

Kemp also went on to say she never acknowledged her Christian faith in court previously or provided a defendant with a Bible, but Guyger told her she didn’t have a Bible at the end of the trial and asked her for a hug twice.

“Following my own convictions, I could not refuse that woman a hug. I would not,” Kemp said defiantly.

Responding to the anger of Black people who questioned why she didn’t show the same empathy for Black defendants.

Kemp said: “I don’t understand the anger. And I guess I could say if you profess religious beliefs and you are going to follow them, I would hope that they not be situational and limited to one race only,”

Protestors Run To Mahama After Police Brutality

Former President, John Dramani Mahama expressed regrets at the treatment meted out to the students by the police as they embarked on a demonstration exercise dubbed #OpenUpLegalEducation on Monday.

Speaking to Citi News after the demonstrators called on him to give him a copy of their petition, he said he was ready to spearhead the conversation on reforms in the legal education system.

“It just happens that by coincidence we had an interaction with the Ghana bar association this morning and we have embarked on a number of interactions with professional groups, civil society organizations, and faith-based organizations. Actually, the issue that you are concerned about came up in our discussion and we expressed our opinion and said that we are happy to open a conversation with regards to reforming the legal education system”.

“I expressed my regrets at the treatment that you have been subjected to, and to extend my sympathies to those who have been injured and the ones who have been put in detention. You are our children and as young people, as you are, I believe that everybody should have the opportunity to pursue the career of their dreams and all avenues should be opened to make it possible for young people to realize their full potential”.

Hundreds of law students in the country hit the streets on Monday to demand reforms in the country’s legal education system.

The protest dubbed #OpenUpLegalEducation was expected to end with the protesters marching to the Jubilee House to present a petition to the President.

However, the planned peaceful protest by the aggrieved law students turned violent.

Though the reason for the violence is unclear, Citi News understands that a number of the protestors were picked up by the Police.

Water cannons were fired on the law students while warning shots were also fired as students tried to march to the Jubilee House.

Some protesters were also reportedly injured by rubber bullets.

Citi News’ Michael Ogbodu reported that “those who were picked up were manhandled as they were forced into police trucks.”

The protestors were however prevented from getting to the Jubilee House.

They subsequently presented the petition to John Mahama, Ministry of Justice, Ghana Bar Association and the Canadian Embassy.

Sunyani Airport To Be Re-opened By End Of 2019 – Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has assured the chiefs and people of the Bono region that the Sunyani airport will be re-opened by the end of this year to facilitate movement between the region and other parts of the country.

The President gave the assurance in Sunyani during his meeting with chiefs in the Bono region at the start of his two-day working visit to the region.

Already, government has made available over Ghc48m for major rehabilitation works at the airport. The rehabilitation works include the partitioning of the terminal, giving the run-way a facelift, re-location of some offices and the provision of some other ultra-modern facilities that would enable the airport to be used by commercial airlines.

Responding to a request by the chiefs, President Akufo-Addo again assured that the Finance Ministry will soon make funds available to the Bono Ahafo Regional House of chiefs to facilitate the adjudication of the various chieftaincy disputes bedeviling the House and also to carry out effective research activities, among other things.

The President added that the Attorney-General had reached advanced stages of the Legislative Instruments (L.Is) for the establishment of Regional Houses of Chiefs in all areas affected by the creation of the new regions, adding that the L.Is will soon be laid before Parliament for consideration and approval.

The Minister of Road and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta stated that this government will do everything possible to ensure that there is value for money in all road projects, saying “the days of shoddy road construction works are over.”

He announced that ten kilometers of Sunyani town roads will be asphalted by the end of March next year while several roads in the region have been awarded to contractors.

They include Berekum-Drobo, Berekum-Nsawkaw, Sampa town roads, Dormaa Ahenkro town roads as well as Wenchi town roads.

Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, for his part, said the proposed Tree Crop Development Authority will go a long way to boost the production of cashew, rubber and oil palm, among others.

Welcoming the President earlier, the Omanhene of Dwenem, Nana Bofo Bene IV, who is also the Vice-president of the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs thanked the President for implementing pro-poor policies such as the Free Senior High School programme and the restoration of nursing trainee allowance.

He however expressed concern about the poor nature of most of the roads in the region saying, out of the 572.4 kilometers of road in the region, 42% are not motorable and called for urgent steps to fix the roads.

He also called for the upgrading of some senior high schools in the region into the Grade A category of schools in the country.

President Akufo-Addo and his entourage also spent some time with students of the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC), St. James Seminary and Senior High School at SUSEC.

Addressing the students and staff of the two schools, President Akufo-Addo entreated the students to justify the huge investments being made in them by being studious and discipline.

He asked them to study hard to become “well rounded citizens” in future.

President Akufo-Addo later inspected work on the Sunyani-New Dormaa-Yawhima road project and the rehabilitation works currently underway at the Sunyani airport.

He also addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Dormaa at Dormaa Ahenkro where he reiterated his commitment to fulfil all his electoral promises.

Professor Ransford Gyampo, a Political Science lecturer and Head of European Studies at the University of Ghana, Legon says he remains the same despite the public backlash and ridicule.

This was after he was caught in the “sex for grades” investigations carried out by BBC Africa Eye.

He was speaking this afternoon through phone interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme.

The outspoken Prof. Gyampo has accused some faceless individuals of being behind the viral video in order to disgrace him, tarnish his image and render him irrelevant in the eyes of the right-thinking Ghanaians.

Professor Gyampo, according to the BBC denied the allegations levelled against him, saying he was entrapped.

“The lady sent to entrap me is not my student and doesn’t attend University Ghana. We’ve been communicating for over a month. She told me she was reading Marketing and Journalism and undertaking a research on academic freedom,” the Prof. added.

#SexForGrades: University of Lagos Shuts Down ‘Cold Room’ Where Lecturers ‘Sexually Harass’ Students

The University of Lagos has announced the shut down of the ‘Cold Room’, where lecturers reportedly harass students sexually.

This was disclosed by Taiwo Oloyede, the Principal Assistant Registrar (Communication Unit) of the university. The ‘Cold Room’ was mentioned by a lecturer of the school, Boniface Igbeneghu, who was caught on video sexually harassing an undercover journalist who posed as an admission seeker.

Igbeneghu, in the BBC undercover documentary, described the secret place where lecturers meet to “touch students breast” at the staff club of the university.

“They call the place cold room,” he said. He then explained that female students must pay to have good grades. “The so called ‘Cold Room’ is a Functions Room that may have been abused because this is a deviation from the purpose for which it was created (meetings, seminars, events, etc)” the university spokesperson said.

Oloyede also confirmed that Mr Igbeneghu had been suspended.

Judge Dismisses No-Deal Brexit Court Move

Lawyers for the government insisted Mr Johnson would comply with the law

A Scottish judge has dismissed a move to force Boris Johnson to comply with a law aimed at avoiding a no-deal Brexit.

Campaigners had wanted to ensure that the prime minister would write to the EU to request an extension if no deal is in place by 19 October.

They argued that statements made by the government showed that it could not be trusted.

But Lord Pentland said there could be “no doubt” that the prime minister had agreed to abide by the law.

As a result, he said there was no need for “coercive orders” against the UK government or against the prime minister.

And he said it would be “destructive of one of the core principles of constitutional propriety and of the mutual trust that is the bedrock of the relationship between the court and the Crown” if Mr Johnson reneged on his assurances to the court.

What was the case about?

Jo Maugham QC said there would be an appeal against the decision

The Scottish legal action was initiated by businessman Dale Vince, QC Jo Maugham and SNP MP Joanna Cherry.

They wanted the Court of Session, Scotland’s highest court, to rule on the extent to which Mr Johnson was bound by the so-called Benn Act.

The legislation was passed by MPs with the intention of preventing the UK leaving the European Union without a deal on 31 October.

It requires the prime minister to send a letter to the EU formally requesting an extension to the Brexit timetable if no deal is signed off by Parliament by 19 October – unless MPs agree to a no-deal Brexit.

The petitioners had argued that a series of public statements by the prime minster indicated that he was planning to break the law by refusing to ask for an extension.

Mr Johnson has said he would rather be “dead in a ditch” than ask for a delay.

However, government papers submitted to the court said that Mr Johnson would send a letter to the EU if a deal was not agreed by the deadline.

What did the court decide?

The legislation would compel Mr Johnson to write to the EU if there is not a deal

In his ruling, Lord Pentland said the UK government had accepted it must “comply fully” with the act and would not seek to “frustrate its purpose”.

As a result, he said there was “no proper basis” on which the court could decide that the government would fail to deliver on that undertaking.

The judge ruled that the UK government’s public statements were an expression of its “political policy” and were “clearly not intended to be taken as conclusive statements of the government’s understanding of its legal obligations”.

Lord Pentland said the prime minister and the government had given “unequivocal assurances” to comply with the 2019 Act.

As a result, he was “not persuaded that it was necessary for the court to grant the orders sought or any variant of them”.

What happens next?

Campaigners outside the Court of Session in Edinburgh

Those behind the petition said they would appeal against the ruling. It is thought that the appeal could be heard on Tuesday.

Jo Maugham QC said the decision had left Mr Johnson with “wriggle room”.

“I very much hope the court is right and that the government will – as the government has promised to do – abide by the law,” Mr Maugham said.

“But there is very real doubt in my mind that the government will act in accordance with the law and so tomorrow we will pursue our appeal against the decision of the Outer House to the Inner House of the Court of Session, Scotland’s highest court.”

Timeline: What’s happened with the EU letter case?

  • 4 September – MPs back a bill aimed at blocking a no-deal Brexit on 31 October. The so-called Benn Act says Boris Johnson has until 19 October to either pass a deal in Parliament or get MPs to approve a no-deal Brexit.
  • 4 October – The Court of Session in Edinburgh starts to hear a case from Remain supporters who want a legal guarantee that if there is no deal on Brexit Mr Johnson will write a letter to the EU requesting an extension to the deadline.
  • 4 October – During that hearing papers are lodged at the court saying the prime minister will send the letter to the EU.
  • 7 October – Judge Lord Pentland dismisses the case saying there is “no doubt” that the PM accepts he will comply with the requirements of the act and send the letter in the event of a no deal.

What is the letter Boris Johnson would have to write?

“Dear Mr President,

The UK Parliament has passed the European Union (Withdrawal) (No. 2) Act 2019. Its provisions now require Her Majesty’s Government to seek an extension of the period provided under Article 50(3) of the Treaty on European Union, including as applied by Article 106a of the Euratom Treaty, currently due to expire at 11.00pm GMT on 31 October 2019, until 11.00pm GMT on 31 January 2020.

I am writing therefore to inform the European Council that the United Kingdom is seeking a further extension to the period provided under Article 50(3) of the Treaty on European Union, including as applied by Article 106a of the Euratom Treaty. The United Kingdom proposes that this period should end at 11.00pm GMT on 31 January 2020. If the parties are able to ratify before this date, the Government proposes that the period should be terminated early.

Yours sincerely,

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”

‘One of my eyes is smaller. It roams on its own,’ he said, according to a transcript released Sunday by his office. ‘That’s myasthenia gravis. It’s a nerve malfunction. I got it from my grandfather.’

This comes after senior aide Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go addressed rumours surrounding his health, saying ‘it’s nothing serious,’ adding the president is ‘conscious of his health’.

According to the US National Institutes of Health, the condition causes muscle weakness, and can result in drooping of eyelids, blurred vision as well as weakness in one’s extremities.
