Report Corrupt Officer To Chiefs, Local Authorities

The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has called on communities without police stations or security facility, to report corrupt practices to their chiefs, District Chief Executives or any local lawmaker.

The Chief Director of CHRAJ, Alhaji Suleiman Ahmed, was of the view that this would help his office to reach out and investigate these complaints to ensure justice is served.

He made the call on Monday, October 3, at a sensitisation workshop on the Whistleblower Act 2006 (Act 720) in Accra.

According to him, it is important to have such key stakeholder workshops to conscientise all concerned, to help in the fight against corruption.

Alhaji Suleiman Ahmed reiterated the need for the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) document which he said, constitutes a national framework for combating corruption, to promote visible developments across the country.

“The state institutions have key roles as embedded in the document to implement so that collectively, we can fight corruption,” he explained.

On the Whistleblower Act, he said it is prudent for citizens to know that the Act provides a framework for individuals to disclose information of public interest that relates to unlawful or illegal conduct for action.

He was, however, unhappy that most people are unaware of this Act which also provides for disclosures on procurement breaches that are likely to occur.

The Director of Anti Corruption at CHRAJ, Charles Ayamdo, in his presentation on the role of the Commission in the implementation of the Whistleblower Act, cautioned authorities or individuals to desist from withholding information or disclosure by a whistleblower, as it can lead to severe sanctions and punishment of not less than a two-year jail term, if found capable.

He also assured whistleblowers of the necessary compensation and protection against victimisation.

State Attorney, Asiamah Sarpong, gave a detailed presentation on the Whistleblower Act 2006 (Act 720) while an official from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), Abdul Latif Alhassan, took them through the procurement regulations.

Drop ‘Comprehensive Satanic Engagement’ Now — GPCC Demands

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has described the controversial Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) program as “Comprehensive Satanic Engagement.”

GPCC wants the programme withdrawn entirely from the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum for basic schools.

There is intense pressure on the Ministry of Education and the GES to withdraw the program which critics consider as a subtle attempt to sexualize children and indoctrinate them into embracing homosexuality as a normal way of life.

The calls have deepened after the GES and the Ministry of Education gave contradictory explanations on the existence or otherwise of the policy in the curriculum.

Addressing the media on Thursday, the President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Rev. Prof Paul Yaw Frimpong-Manso labelled the subject as diabolic, as it will have negative consequences on children.

“We are here to address and state our official position on the raging debate and controversy of the Comprehensive Sexuality Education which I have termed Comprehensive Satanic Education because of the impact it can have on our children which the government through the Ministry of education intends or intended to introduce into the Basic Schools curriculum come the next academic year,” he said.

He further among other recommendations called for the withdrawal of CSE.

“Government should be transparent with the people of Ghana by publicly committing to completely withdrawing this policy instead of a mere assurance of suspension of implementation. This move we believe will engender trust between government and key stakeholders of our educational system. This mutual trust is currently missing and must be pursued now,” he stated.

Although the Minister of Education Matthew Opoku Prempeh earlier on denied all allegations concerning the introduction of CSE into the current curriculum, checks indicate that CSE has already been included in the curriculum.

The GPCC is not the only body that has called for the withdrawal or have raised concerns about the introduction of sexuality education into the system.

The African Education Watch, a non-government organization is also calling on government to as a matter of urgency terminate any plans to roll out the CSE and seek consultations from relevant stakeholders to come to an agreement on this move.

Martinelli Stars As Arsenal Thrash Standard Liege

Arsenal took charge of Group F in the Europa League with a rampant display against Standard Liege at the Emirates Stadium.

The three points were effectively secured in the opening 22 minutes. The electric Gabriel Martinelli scored twice in quick succession and Joe Willock soon added a third, as Arsenal’s hungry young players blew their opponents away.

More good work from Martinelli led to Dani Ceballos scoring his first goal for Arsenal in the second half. Arsenal created chances for fun from their left side, with Kieran Tierney and Reiss Nelson slicing through the Standard Liege’s defence at will.

Although the emphatic display will be asterisked due to a soporific display from the opposition, it did draw attention to the talent in Arsenal’s ranks as they try to push on and re-establish themselves in the top four of the Premier League. Manager Unai Emery will have much to consider ahead of Bournemouth’s visit to the Emirates on Sunday.

Labour leaders have given the President Muhammadu Buhari led government ultimatum to conclude negotiations on consequential adjustment of salaries of workers between grade 7 and 14.

They also rejected the Presidential Committee set up to further deliberate on the issue.

“We may not guarantee industrial peace and harmony in the country if our demands are not met at the close of work on Wednesday, 16 October”, it added.

Rachel Kolisi has decided to stop posting her children on social media

Springbok captain Siya Kolisi‘s wife Rachel has explained her decision to keep the pair’s children off social media, claiming fame was getting “too much” and affecting their lives.

The star has made a noticeable effort to avoid posting her children on social media and, when she does, she hides their faces. When quizzed about it on social media recently, Rachel explained her reasons for the decision.

It was just getting too much. They started getting stopped and asked to take pictures and they didn’t like it,” she said in an Instagram Stories Q&A session.

She explained that they could hardly walk around in public any more. We couldn’t walk around in public without being recognised. We didn’t have privacy any more so I decided to just stop posting them,” she added. Still, she couldn’t help but gush over her little family and recently started taking them to gym with her.

She explained that she decided to let them work with her to encourage them to pick up healthy hobbies and spend quality time together. I love having them all together so much,” she added in an Instagram post of them all working out together recently.

In other news – Nothing can save DA’s Mmusi Maimane after latest scandals, say analysts

Two of the country’s prominent political analysts believe that nothing can save Mmusi Maimane, who has been significantly weakened by a series of scandals in the past few weeks, from the axe.

The analysts believe that even pre-empting his opponents who are believed to be hitting him with calculated leaks, by coming out clean on potential future scandals, cannot save him. This comes as some provincial leaders of the DA who are considered to be part of the so-called ‘black caucus’ are closing ranks around Maimane whose job has already been given to Alan Winde, the Premier of the Western Cape by the Institute of Race Relations. Helen Zille recently joined the think tank. Read more
