Matthijs de Ligt was adjudged to have handled in the area and Lautaro Martinez converted the spot kick.

Juventus moved top with 19 points to Inter’s 18.

Atalanta are two points further back in third after their impressive start continued with a 3-1 home victory over Lecce.

Duvan Zapata opened the scoring in the 35th minute when he punished a defensive mistake and then combined well with Alejandro Gomes who made it 2-0 before halftime.

Fourth-plached Napoli were held 0-0 at Torino while AS Roma, who are fifth, drew 1-1 at home to Cagliari.

CSE: Calm down, no LGBT agenda in curriculum

President Nana Akufo-Addo has stated emphatically, there will be no introduction of any subject that will negatively affect the moral upbringing of children.

Addressing members of the St. Cyprains Anglican Church in Kumasi, the President said it is untrue that his government intends to introduce the much-maligned Comprehensive Sexuality Education in public schools.

Conservative groups have been alarmed at the supposed introduction of CSE, believed to subtly condition pupils to explore LGBT lifestyles.

The Ghana Education Service and the Education Ministry have denied it. But it has not stopped further questioning of government’s motives.

The Information Ministry announced the President would be meeting members of the clergy to bring clarity to the matter.

Speaking to a congregation in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, the President urged Ghanaians to ‘calm down’.

The President said as a Christian, his faith will not permit him to expose pupils to immoral teachings.

The President said the focus of his education policy remains free Senior High School which removes financial barriers to education at the second cycle level. He said the government is also focused on improving the quality of education in Ghana.

He asked Ghanaians to pray that God grants him wisdom in steering the affairs of the country.

The President is expected to commence a tour of the Bono and Ashanti Regions from Monday, October 7.

CSE controversy: Biology not determinant of gender

Professor of Information and Communication studies, Audrey Gadzekpo, has said it is not just biology that determines whether one is male or female.

According to her, nature plays a significant part in determining what roles a person plays in society and how they express it as well.

“What I understand, is to be able to explain to your children that it is not only biology that makes you a woman or a man, it is nature also that prescribes what roles and how you express those roles,” she said.

She explained that the narrowing down of the debate about the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) to issues of homosexuality by some conservative groups, does not help the debate.

“They have narrowed a whole comprehensive important discussion to homosexuality. It is not helpful to anybody, to our debate, our informed minds, and it does not allow us to deal with the clear and present danger,” she said.

According to her, this “clear and present danger” is paedophilia, which she believes the CSE will “cure”.

Referencing stories on paedophilia reported in the media , she said issues of sexuality have become important and therefore need to be comprehensively tackled “because adults are preying on children.”

She, therefore, cautioned the public to desist from making the whole discussion concerning Comprehensive Sexuality Education a matter of homosexuality, as it is not a danger.

“Why are we not talking about that clear and present danger which this (CSE) will cure? Why do we want to shift this whole debate into that narrow pigeon hole of homosexuality which is not our clear and present danger even if we do not like it?”

Ebenezer Obey And I Often Pretended To Be Fighting – King Sunny Ade

Entertainment Gists

By  |

Popular Juju music superstar, King Sunny Ade who was perceived as Ebenezer Obey’s rival in the music industry, has disclosed that they always pretended to be at loggerheads.

According to KSA, the aim of their supposed face-offs was for their fans to enjoy their music even though their friendship began with a clash between their fans.

The 73-year-old singer added that it was their fans that always believed they were fighting. KSA told Punch;

It was the fans that believed we were always fighting. Obey and I had been friends since we began our bands and we are still friends till date. He started his band a year before me. Also, we pretended to be fighting in order for our fans to enjoy our music. Then, we used to play at night clubs, and where he was playing wasn’t far from where I played. I recall that the fans would go and disrupt his band, and later come to disturb us too. One day, I went to his (Obey) house to meet him behind closed doors.

I asked him how we could manage the situation, and he also asked for my suggestion. We both agreed to change the date of our performances at the club. He chose Thursdays while I maintained Wednesdays. Later, we also pretended to our seniors that we had a misunderstanding, so I invited Pa IK Dairo, Haruna Ishola, Adeolu Akinsanya and two others, to help settle the rift. For a long time, to avoid clashes of our fans, if I had a show, I would ask if Ebenezer Obey was going to be there. If they said yes, I wouldn’t go; and that was the same thing he did too. Our elders then told us there should be no more fight between us, and we should make records to appease our fans.

So, when I sang, he replied too. As the two of us were holding the meeting in his house, we just heard a bang on the door and somebody (Olabisi Ajala) was shouting that so the two of us were friends, yet we were pretending otherwise. We didn’t open the door but we had already agreed on how we would be doing things from then on. I have to thank God for his (Obey) life because he later got a call from God and became a cleric. The bottom line is that we have always been friends. We later advised young musicians that they don’t need to fight or destroy one another’s shows because of unnecessary rivalry.

Chibok girls: What David Cameron’s allegation against Jonathan has exposed – Fani-Kayode

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Femi Fani-Kayode, has reacted to the recent claim made by a former UK Prime Minister, David Cameron against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Cameron alleged that Jonathan stopped Britain from rescuing some of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014.

The British PM disclosed that the then government of Jonathan did not give enough support to Britain during the abduction of 274 schoolgirls from Chibok, Borno State in 2014.

However, Fani-Kayode said that by making such allegation against Jonathan, Cameron had displayed his alleged complicity in the kidnap of the girls.

He said the former Prime Minister must now confess his role in the abduction.

Fani-Kayode tweeted, “Telling the cheap cover-up lie that @GEJonathan rejected the help the UK offered to rescue the ChibokGirls, @David_Cameron has exposed his complicity in the deadly circus the Chibok abduction was.

“David must now find thecourage to confess his role in the abduction plan itself.”

VIDEO: Barcelona 4 – 0 Sevilla [Laliga] Highlights 2019/20

Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele scored memorable goals for Barcelona as Ernesto Valverde’s decision to drop Antoine Griezmann was vindicated in a 4-0 victory over Sevilla.

While their €120million signing sat among the substitutes, Suarez’s acrobatic overhead kick got the LaLiga champions off the mark, Arturo Vidal polished off a sublime passing move with the second and Dembele scored a solo effort to all but end the contest.

Lionel Messi wrapped up the win with a curling second-half free-kick and the synergy between Barcelona’s front three, which has not always clicked with Griezmann involved, will not have been lost on Valverde.

The match ended in unsavoury fashion for the Catalans, though, who saw debutant Ronald Araujo and Dembele sent off shortly before injury time.

Luuk de Jong received good service from Lucas Ocampos in the early stages but he fluffed three chances put Sevilla ahead before Suarez broke the deadlock with a moment of magic 27 minutes in.

The Uruguay marksman watched Nelson Semedo’s cross loop through the air and met it with an overhead kick into the bottom corner of the net before goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik could react.

The goal settled the hosts and five minutes later a move that incorporated 25 passes and all 11 Barcelona players culminated in Arthur’s weighted ball, which allowed Vidal to slide in and glance a shot past Vaclik.

Dembele made it 3-0 inside eight first-half minutes when his slaloming run tore through Sevilla’s defence, the 22-year-old opening his body and side-footing in at the far post.

The second half started just like the first, with De Jong squandering a great chance to score when he drilled a shot against the post from just inside the Barca box.

The hosts were soon back on top and Messi twice surged through Sevilla’s midfield before putting the finishing touches on a fine win with a dipping, curling free-kick 12 minutes from time.

Valverde sent on Araujo for his debut, which turned sour when he was judged to have fouled Javier Hernandez as the Sevilla forward went through on goal and was shown a red card along with Dembele, who was sent off for his protests.

What does it mean? Barca go second

After Atletico Madrid were held to a goalless draw at Real Valladolid, Barcelona took full advantage and claimed a result that moved them up to second place in the table, two points behind leaders Real Madrid.

Frenkie says ‘Relax!’

A run of mixed results in August and September left Valverde under pressure but his players looked calm and assured here, none more so than Frenkie de Jong, who looks every inch the composed midfield lynchpin to succeed Sergio Busquets – a second-half substitute here.

No luck for Luuk

While Barca’s De Jong barely put a foot wrong his Sevilla namesake had a torrid evening, the centre-forward missing four clear chances to give the visitors a foothold in the game.

Key Opta Facts

– Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has become the first player to score in 16 consecutive LaLiga seasons in the 21st century.
– Luis Suarez has scored 183 goals for Barca in all competitions, one behind Jose Samitier, their fourth-highest all-time top scorer.
– Messi scored his 100th goal from outside the box for Barca in all competitions, 43 coming from direct free-kicks.
– Julen Lopetegui has conceded nine goals in his two LaLiga games at Camp Nou as a coach (16 shots on target faced).
– Barca have not lost any of their 23 LaLiga matches with Arturo Vidal in their starting XI (W15 D8).
– The Catalans received two red cards in the same LaLiga game for the first time since February 2010 against Getafe.

What’s next?

Barcelona will hope to extend their winning run to five matches in all competitions by beating Eibar away from home on October 19, while Sevilla aim to get back on course as they entertain Levante a day later.

Why We Seized Bukola Saraki’s Property – Kwara State Assembly

The Kwara State House of Assembly has said it directed the seizure of the Alimi Chalet and an expanse of land, popularly called ‘Ile Arugbo’, allegedly acquired by a former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

The Assembly said the property belonged to the state government and there was no evidence the politician paid for them. In a statement by the Special Assistant to the Speaker, Ibrahim Sheriff, the Assembly said the allocation of the posh property to Saraki by the last administration was a “violent violation” of the Kwara State Former Governor’s Pension Law 2010, as amended, which had already taken care of him (Saraki).

The state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kola Shittu, described the legislature’s action as “ill-conceived, malicious and another indication that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is out on a vendetta mission.”  But, the Assembly in a statement titled, ‘Our position on the seizure of Alimi Chalet, Saraki’s House’, said there was an evidence the property was illegally acquired.

The statement indicated, “The Ile Arugbo had been erected on land originally meant for the expansion of the Civil Service Clinic and Phase II of the State Government Secretariat without any evidence that anyone paid a dime to the government for the land.

“The noise surrounding the affected property is politically motivated, as other public property unlawfully acquired are also being looked into. We dare say that allowing impunity to stand, no matter who is affected and how long it has taken place, is a disservice to the state and its people.

“Apart from the fact that the purported sale of the Alimi Chalet did not conform to the Kwara State former Governors’ Pension Law 2010, as amended, which incidentally was the brainchild of Saraki, we contend that there is no record anywhere that Saraki paid a dime to have the property transferred to him. The transfer only fits into what the late Fela Anikulapo called ‘paddy-paddy’ arrangement.”

The Assembly challenged the affected parties to prove they legally acquired the property by presenting evidence of payment.

“The pension law takes adequate care of the former governor (Saraki). The law allows ex-governors to own a five-bedroomed duplex, as opposed to the Alimi Chalet, which consists of three separate chalets with three boys’ quarters of three rooms each and, therefore, does not fit into the recommendation of the pension law of 2010.

“Aside from the three houses on over one hectare of land on Alimi Road supposedly given to Saraki under the state pension law, Saraki also got N250m under the same law to build another retirement home for himself.

“The said Alimi Chalet, which was gifted to him, is the property of the people of Kwara State and was never contemplated as a gift to former governors,” the Assembly said.
