EPL: Solskjaer gives update on Rashford injury ahead of Rochdale, Arsenal games

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is worried Marcus Rashford could be sidelined “for a while”, after suffering a groin injury during the 2-0 defeat to West Ham.

Rashford limped off in the second half, leaving United to play for the final 30 minutes with Jesse Lingard at centre-forward.

Mason Greenwood missed the trip because of illness, while Rashford joins an injury list that already includes Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw.

Solskjaer is hopeful of having Martial or Greenwood available for the Carabao Cup tie with Rochdale at Old Trafford on Wednesday and both back for Arsenal’s visit on Monday.

“We will scan him [Rashford] tomorrow.

“He felt his groin so probably be out for a little while. I can update you later when I know a little more.

“It is just one of these moments. We’ve had, histrionically, loads of centre-backs of the last few years struggling with injuries.

“At the moment it is strikers. Hopefully, Mason and Anthony will be back for Arsenal and hopefully one for Rochdale,” Solskjaer told reporters after the game at the London Stadium.

74th UNGA: IPOB reveals why it will protest against Buhari in New York

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has vowed to protest against President Muhammadu Buhari and his government during the 74th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in the USA this week.

According to the pro-Biafra group, the essence of the protest was to stand against the continued onslaught, arrest and secret abduction of its members by agents allegedly sponsored by the federal government.

IPOB also said the protest will serve to prove to the entire world its resoluteness and determination to achieve an independent state of Biafra free from impunity, corruption, poverty and human rights abuses.

Recall that President Buhari, in the company of no fewer than three governors and seven ministers, yesterday departed Abuja for New York city to represent Nigeria at the 74th global meeting of the UNGA. http://bit.ly/2Md48el

Reacting, in an exclusive chat with DAILY POST, Comrade Emma Powerful, the Publicity Secretary for IPOB, said: “Our members in the US are on ground waiting for Buhari to appear in the United Nations General Assembly this week, the General assembly is scheduled to start holding deliberation from 25th of September 2019 in the city of New York.

“Our people in the US must make every arrangement necessary to protest against Buhari and his government in Nigeria during this upcoming summit to prove our resoluteness and determination for the coming of Biafra.

“The world leaders must understand why they must support outright freedom of Biafra people from Nigeria without much delay.

“Buhari and his Fulani government in Nigeria have totally destroyed this country and we must let the world know what Nigeria has become.

“IPOB is going to stage a powerful protest against him in US for the purpose of standing against the continued and incessant killing, arrest and secret abductions of Biafrans both men, women and in a very broad range to stop IPOB from demanding their rights for free state of Biafran nation. The whole world will see IPOB right in front of UN headquarters in New York.”

He added that IPOB’s case on the alleged human rights abuses against its members was already before various specialised UN agencies and working groups.

According to him, “The Camallard’s recent press release on Nigeria is one such example. You can see that only the press statement has rattled Aso Rock and Fulani cabals in the villas.

“Our meeting with UN officials last week were frank and forthright. If there were doubts before in their minds that Nigeria is one almighty calamity, the feeling we got after our discussions is that they now have a proper appreciation and deeper understanding of how irredeemably hopeless the case for one Nigeria has become in light of the reign of impunity, poverty, repression, unbridled corruption and collapse of the legal system.

“The well marshalled case for Biafra self-determination by our leader and prophet of our time Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was all too apparent for them to see and persuasively argued to their understanding that IPOB will not retreat nor relent in the pursuit for free and liberation of Biafran people.”

The IPOB spokesman insisted that the group will only intensify its efforts to bring about the total collapse of the Nigeria.

He said, “High levels of police and army brutality against innocent and unarmed citizens of Biafra and absence of a compromised judiciary makes Nigeria a prime candidate for cataclysmic implosion in the not too distant future.

“We must protest against Buhari and his collaborators at the 74th United Nations general assembly in New York city this week.”

Mining Firms Cry Over Minion Fines On Supplementary Imports

Players in Ghana’s mining sector are worried over spontaneous fines imposed on the import of certain items designated for local manufacturers and suppliers, but not procurable on the local market.

The Minerals and Mining Regulations 2012 (L.I. 2173) listed 29 products used in the mining sector that must be sourced locally, or attract full duty payment and minion charges on its imports.

This is to help increase the patronage of local materials and services to a certain minimum threshold.

The items include grinding media, lime, cement and cement products, HDPE and PVC pipes, tyres and retreading, general and specific lubricants, explosives, caustic soda, among others.

But, the mining firms claim not all of the enlisted products are readily available for purchase on the Ghanaian market, therefore must be sourced externally.

For instance, in terms of steel balls, only forged media is available in limited quantity on the local market, although the industry prefers hi-chrome media due to its high efficiency driving.

The companies said the Minerals Commission however imposes huge fines on the imports of the steel balls to shore up demand, thereby increasing their cost of production.

The miners described the development as unhealthy for their businesses when the Parliamentary Select Committee on Mines and Energy and the Ghana Chamber of Mines paid a two-day working visit to mining companies in the Western Region.

The lawmakers visited the Ghana Manganese Company Limited, Aglogold Iduapriem Mines, Golden Star Wassa Mines and Goldfields Tarkwa and Damang Mines.

Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem and Vice-chair of the committee, George Mireku Duker promised to engage the Minerals Commission and find a mutually-beneficial solution to their concerns.

“The visit is to get first-hand information about your operations, challenges and discuss win-win solutions. We will take your concerns to parliament and engage the regulator as well,” the vice-chair alluded.

A member of the committee and MP for Yapei/Kusawgu, John Abdulai Jinapor implored the miners to ensure the local content law reflects in value and not just the number of indigenous persons or businesses engaged.

“The local content law is meaningless if you engage thousands of businesses and the monetary value is not appreciable. So therefore you need give them big contracts and businesses to do,” Mr. Jinapor explained.

LaLiga: What Luis Suarez said after Barcelona’s 2-0 defeat to Granada

Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, has admitted they are anticipating a “long and complicated” season, after their “worrying” loss to newly promoted Granada on Saturday.

Granada moved to the top of La Liga, after goals from Ramon Azeez and Alvaro Vadillo sealed a 2-0 win at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

For the Blaugrana, it represented their second defeat in the league away from Camp Nou this season.

They were also held 2-2 at Osasuna, leaving them winless in their first three away LaLiga matches for the first time since 1994/1995.

“It’s a worrying defeat, and one that hurts.

“We have to take a look at a lot of things and be self-critical in order to improve moving forward.

“We’re not thinking about last season when we were champions, it’s about analysing the now. Analysing why we’re not winning away, because it’s worrying us. Analysing the lack of chances.

“We have to accept that we’re obliged to win games and we’re not doing it. There’s a long way to go [in La Liga], but these are the type of games that can give you the league. It’s going to be a long, complicated year,” Suarez told Movistar after the game.

Amnesty International reacts as Buhari govt slams treason charges on Sowore

Amnesty international has reacted to the seven-count charge of treasonable felony and money laundering against detained activist and Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore by the Federal Government.

Sowore, a presidential candidate in the February 2019 presidential election was charged along with Olawale Bakare, also known as Mandate.

The charges were signed on behalf of t‎he Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), by Aminu Alilu, a Chief State Counsel in the Department of Public Prosecutions of the Federation‎, the Federal Ministry of Justice.

In the charges instituted against the defendants, the prosecution accused Sowore and his co-defendant of committing conspiracy to commit treasonable felony in breach of section 516 of the Criminal Code Act by allegedly staging “a revolution campaign on September 5, 2019 aimed at removing the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The prosecution also accused them of committing the actual offence of reasonable felony in breach of section, 4(1)(c) of the Criminal Code Act, by using the platform of Coalition for Revolution, in August 2019 in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria, to stage the #RevolutionNow protest allegedly aimed at removing the President.

It also accused Sowore of cybercrime offences in violation of section 24(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, by “knowingly” sending “messages by means of press interview granted on Arise Television network which you knew to be false for the purpose of causing insult, enmity, hatred and ill-will on the person of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Reacting, Amnesty international in a post on its verified Twitter page condemned the charges.

The global rights human organization described the charges against Sowore “as an attempt by the Nigerian authorities to deprive Sowore of his human rights”

The post read: “Amnesty International condemns the bizarre charges pressed on activist Omoyele Sowore for expressing his views in media interviews.

“The trumped up charges he is facing show an attempt by the Nigerian authorities to deprive him of his human rights; Omoyele Sowore continued incarceration on application of the Terrorism Act for exercising his right to freedom of expression is a misuse of the criminal system to silence dissent.

“We call on the Nigerian authorities to respect and protect human rights of all persons without discrimination and ensure that it does not use its laws to justify violations of Omoyele Sowore human rights.”

Arsenal vs Aston Villa: Unai Emery takes decision on passing out from the back

Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, has said his team will stick to passing out from the back.

However, ahead of today’s Premier League game against Aston Villa, Emery said the players will still go long, if situation calls for it.

Arsenal’s tactic of building from the back came under fire last weekend, after they were held by Watford after letting a two-goal lead slip.

The Gunners bounced back from that disappointing 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road, with a 3-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League on Thursday, when their style of play was far less risky.

But Emery has told Mail Online, that the philosophy of playing out from defence, will be part of Arsenal’s “identity”.

“The last match, Watford, was maybe the worst in our build up. But we are going to try, to work, to improve, to achieve our style.

“To build up with the goalkeeper and centre back is going to be our identity but we are going to share sometimes with long balls.

“Against Frankfurt we were different and decided more times to do long ball, earn metres on the pitch and after attack the space. We are going to decide what to do on Sunday, depending on Aston Villa,” he said.

Asked whether his players have the freedom to make their own decisions on whether to build from the back or go long, Emery said: “We use different ways.

“We are working every day on the pitch here in training sessions to improve and achieve our best solution in each moment, using videos also.”
