These heroes allegedly hacked a billboard to play pornography

Not all heroes wear capes. In the case of two individuals accused of hacking a digital billboard to play pornography, the garments of choice appear to be more hoodie-like.

According to Michigan’s Auburn Hills Police Department, at 10:49 p.m. on Sept. 28, the two individuals pictured above broke into a small building underneath a digital billboard on the side of I-75. Once inside, they somehow managed to hack the billboard and used it to play pornography.

Drivers, needless to say, were surprised and delighted at the unexpected sight.

The video reportedly ran for about 15 to 20 minutes before it was eventually shut down.

“Officers arrived on scene and witnessed the video being displayed at that time,” reads the above press release. “We were able to contact an emergency contact for the private business, which operates the sign, and they were able to shut down the sign.”

Motherboard managed to identify two of the performers in the video, one of whom explained to the publication that she was mainly concerned about driver safety.

“Yes that is me, I never thought this would happen with my content,” Xev Bellringer told Motherboard. “I’m just happy that no one was injured!”

The Auburn Hills Police Department shared video of what it claimed to be the culprits on its Facebook page. Once they enter the building, one of the pranksters appears to use their phone to locate the infrared camera recording nefarious actions. They soon turn the camera toward the wall so that the remainder of their hijinks go unrecorded.

The police, for their part, are not happy.

“Promoting pornography and/or promoting pornography for minors by disseminating any pornographic material, images, videos, etc. is a violation of an Auburn Hills local ordinance with a possible penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $500 fine,” reads the Auburn Hills Police Department press release. “These suspects now face potential burglary charges for forcing entry into the building to gain access to the computer system, which is a felony offense.”

Oh, the horror.

Frodd Uses His ‘Ultimate Veto Power’ One Last Time To Evict Diane

Entertainment Gists

By  |

Big Brother Naija Housemate, Diane has left the House after being randomly picked out from an unlucky draw.

The Task of picking Diane to leave was performed by Frodd as the second and final part of the privilege of his Ultimate Veto Power. The choice wasn’t entirely in his hands as he had to randomly pick from a magic hat.

To get the ball rolling, the Housemates were asked to fetch all their remaining Bet9ja Coins including the big gold Bet9ja Coin they were each given four weeks ago. The Housemates were asked to drop all their Bet9ja Coins in the magic hat except the big gold ones. Their ordinary Bet9ja coins had become redundant at this point. It was a good thing some of them spent theirs when they did.

Diane and Omashola wrote their names on their gold Bet9ja coins and dropped it in a magic hat with the rest of the Coins leaving Frodd with the final Ultimate Veto job of picking which Housemate to go home through an unlucky draw. It was a tense moment in the House as Frodd reached into the sac picking again and again till he eventually picked Diane.

The Final Five

After yesterday’s Eviction that saw Ike and Elozonam leaving, the Pepper Dem Gang were left with six Housemates and the Finale only had slots for five so someone had to leave. But before the process started, a few of the Pepper Dem Gang were assured of their presence in the Finale. Seyi, by virtue of winning the Head of House the previous week, secured a spot for himself in the Finale. The Immunity Mercy bought got her sitting pretty in the Finale while Mike’s public save during the Live Eviction Show guaranteed him a spot in the Finale. Diane and Omashola were the only two left without a guarantee so the decision had to be made between the two of them on who will bid the House goodbye.

Aubameyang Equaliser Condemns Man Utd To Worst Start in 30 Years

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the first Arsenal player to score seven or more goals in the first seven Premier League games of a season since Dennis Bergkamp in 1997-98

Manchester United and Arsenal played out a grim stalemate at Old Trafford that provided compelling evidence to illustrate just how far away from a Premier League challenge both clubs are.

In a disappointing encounter that was a pale shadow of their mighty clashes of years gone by, Scott McTominay gave Manchester United the lead at the end of an attritional first-half with a rising drive from the edge of the area.

Arsenal equalised just before the hour courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cool finish. It was originally ruled out for offside but the video assistant referee confirmed the striker had been played onside by Harry Maguire.

Goalkeeper Bernd Leno excelled for Arsenal with fine saves from Maguire and Marcus Rashford’s late free-kick, while Bukayo Saka’s goalbound shot crucially struck Victor Lindelof and flew over the top.

McTominay also headed a great chance well over from Ashley Young’s corner but neither side could force a winner.

The result takes Arsenal into the top four but Manchester United are now down in 10th after an outcome that means they have made their worst start after seven games in 30 years, failing to reach double figures for the first time since 1989-90, a season in which they finished 13th.

How times have changed

The current circumstances of both clubs was instantly demonstrated by the two captains who led out the sides.

Manchester United’s captain was 34-year-old Ashley Young, pressed into defensive service by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s absence through injury, and Arsenal were led by Granit Xhaka, newly appointed and a divisive figure among supporters.

Young led from the front in a fashion by regularly contesting decisions, showing a remarkable knack of getting to referee Kevin Friend in an instant on numerous occasions.

Xhaka’s night will be best remembered for his contribution to United’s goal – getting away with a foul in the build-up before appearing to take evasive action as McTominay’s drive made its way into the top corner.

There was no shortage of effort but this was a scrappy mess of a game, lacking any cohesion or quality.

United will feel they had the edge on chances, although they were grateful to David de Gea for a fine double save from Saka and Matteo Guendouzi in the first half.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery will be more satisfied than counterpart Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a point but this showed just how far away both are from leaders Liverpool and reigning champions Manchester City – and just how much work they have to do to catch up.

Tough night for Pepe

It was no surprise when Arsenal’s club record £72m signing Nicholas Pepe failed to last the course, being substituted for Reiss Nelson after 72 minutes.

The 24-year-old signing from Lille had struggled desperately throughout and looks worryingly short of confidence so soon after his introduction into the Premier League.

Pepe had one clear shooting opportunity in the first half but skied his effort hopelessly into the Stretford End. He was on the periphery of the action in a laboured performance also littered with poor decision-making.

It was left to the lethal Aubameyang to provide the finishing touch for Arsenal, correctly assisted by VAR after technology showed he was clearly onside.

Solksjaer appeared to think the linesman’s raised flag made his players stop but it was clearly the correct decision as Maguire loitered yards behind his defensive colleagues.

Manchester United (nine) and Arsenal’s (12) combined points tally is level with league leaders Liverpool on 21

‘It is a steep learning curve’

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: “How many times have we have been 1-0 up and not got the second goal? This is a steep learning curve for us and we’ll keep working hard and, with more experience, we’ll make the right decisions.

“We didn’t get out of the blocks quick enough at the start of the second half. It felt like Arsenal were the more proactive until they scored their goal.

“I felt we could get a goal at the end and we sent men forward. I’ve been in that situation as a player when you come off and think you could’ve got more out of a game, but we’ll learn from this.”

Arsenal manager Unai Emery: “I want more – more in the result and in the performance but we are progressing. We were competitive but we can do better. We can control moments with the ball better and take more chances in the box.

“We have young players who can take confidence. Bukayo [Saka] is progressing well but we need other players too. This is not the best in terms of points but one point can be good if we win next Sunday against Bournemouth.”

Man of the match – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

Aubameyang has now scored 14 goals in his last 14 starts in the Premier League for Arsenal

The best of the stats

  • Manchester United’s haul of nine points after seven games is their worst tally at this stage of a top-flight season since 1989-90 (7 points).
  • Arsenal are unbeaten in consecutive Premier League games at Old Trafford (D2) for the first time since January 2000.
  • Arsenal (5) had more shots on target than Man Utd (4) in a Premier League game at Old Trafford for the first time since May 2009 (4-0).
  • Manchester United have won 49 points from their 28 Premier League games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – two fewer than they won in their final 28 games under Jose Mourinho.
  • McTominay’s goal was his first for Manchester United at Old Trafford, in his 25th home game for the club in all competitions.
  • Since his Manchester United debut in February 2016, Rashford has been directly involved in 71 goals for the Red Devils in all competitions (48 goals, 23 assists), eight more than any other player.
  • Saka has registered four goal involvements in just three starts for Arsenal in all competitions this season (1 goal, 3 assists).

Coalition For The Reformation Of Legal Education In Ghana Press Statement

BACKGROUND
On Tuesday the 24th of September, information came into the public domain about the results of the entrance examination into the Ghana School of Law conducted on the 28th of July, 2019.

The results revealed that only 128 students out of the 1820 students who presented themselves for the examination, passed.

Ahead of the conduct of 2019 Law School Entrance Examination, a case had been filed at the Accra High Court challenging the lawfulness of some of the conditions set out in the advertisement announcing the examination.

Specifically, the writ had said that the modalities as spelt out in the advertisement would put the candidates through an exercise of torture likely to trap most of them and that the requirement that they produce police clearance certificates was unlawful. Further, the Applicant, in that case, had stated that the proclamation by the General Legal Council that they cannot be sued over the actions that they take with regard to the examination was ousting the jurisdiction of the courts of Ghana, and on that ground alone, the High Court should strike down the advertisement announcing the commencement of the examination and all acts subsequent thereto.

The High Court disagreed with the Applicant, and ruled on behalf of the General Legal Council. However, subsequent events, particularly the wholesome failure of over 92% of the applicants demonstrate clearly that the Applicant was right in his fears.

RECENT HISTORY
In the year 2016, the General Legal Council introduced what has now come to be known as the Entrance Examination to the Ghana School of Law. At about the same time it also introduced a body called the Independent Examination Committee (IEC). Since the introduction of these two concepts, there have been an increasing number of examination failures of candidates at all levels of legal education at the professional level. This has led to great hardship for many people intending to become lawyers, with hundreds of them being forced out of the country as a result to pursue professional law studies out of the jurisdiction of Ghana in countries like Rwanda and The Gambia, of all places. Interestingly, many of the same students who were considered not worthy of doing the professional course have excelled in other jurisdiction leading to their call to the Bar in those countries. And it is becoming increasingly clear that this totally artificial tragedy would lead to some Ghanaians relocating outside of their country for ever.

The Entrance Examination was introduced because of alleged lack of space at the Ghana School of Law. The Independent Examination Committee, on the other hand, was introduced to stem alleged abuse of power by some lecturers. However, since then, all manner of spurious excuses have been found for the existence of these structures, even when the reasons for their existence have been discounted and discredited. It is all too clear, therefore, that these two institutions exist just to carry out the wishes and desires of some people in authority. The real reason for their existence, is to ensure that the numbers of lawyers in Ghana are kept artificially low.

GOING FORWARD IN THE LIGHT OF CURRENT DEVELOPMENTS

Given the current developments, two clear types of problems have become apparent. These are;

(1) That more and more qualified LLB holders would be denied access to professional legal education, and

(2) More and more students who get access to professional legal education would be denied access to the qualifying certificate certifying them for the call to the Bar.

In the light of the two prevailing conditions stated above, other conditions become apparent, and these are;

(a) The LLB holders who fail the Entrance Examination are either dunces or were not properly tutored, and

(b) The professional law students who failed the examinations were dunces or were not properly tutored at the Professional Law School, or

(c) There is a disconnect between what is being taught in the classrooms, and what the students are being examined on, or

(d) Ghanaian students are natural dunces, and the majority of them cannot grasp the niceties of the concepts of legal principles and their application, or

(e) There is a combination of some or all of the above conditions, thus leading to the mass failures.

In the light of the above, the Coalition for the Reformation of Legal Education in Ghana proposes the following;

(i) That all faculties of law at the various universities immediately stop enrolling new students and additionally put on hold the current curriculum at all levels.

(ii) That all lecturers and instructors at the Ghana School of Law put on hold all lectures and similar programs.

(iii) That representatives of student bodies, lecturers and authorities at the Ghana School of Law and all university faculties offering LLB programs engage with the General Legal Council to establish exactly what the General Legal Council is requiring of students.

(iv) That all students who have fallen prey to the current imbroglio get together to inquire and pursue the legal options available to them under the circumstances.

(v) That the government of Ghana and the President forms a commission of enquiry to investigate all these issues surrounding legal education with the aim of finding a mutually acceptable solution to the current situation.

The Coalition believes that these and other measures, rolled out in tandem, would go a long way towards finding enduring solutions to the problems facing legal education in Ghana.

Facebook to selectively pay media orgs desperate for its news tab scraps

Show appreciation for your kind and generous digital overlord.

Facebook is set to launch its latest feature, news tab, this fall — setting up yet another political battle over what media outlets are or aren’t promoted by the tech giant. While the company has taken great pains to emphasize that it will be different this time around, one thing remains eminently the same: Not all participating publishers will benefit to the same degree.

That’s because, as the Wall Street Journal reports, only roughly 25 percent of the 200 participating publications will receive any monetary compensation from the tech giant in exchange for allowing Facebook to populate its news tab with their content. The remaining 150 will apparently be doing it out of the kindness of their digital media hearts. Well, that and the hopes of raking in that sweet, sweet incoming web traffic.

We first learned about the news tab in August, with reports indicating that publications would likely be signing three-year deals with Facebook to feature their content in some way. Facebook has hired a team of real people to curate the news tab, and has reportedly established editorial guidelines for those employees to follow.

But back to the money. According to the Journal, Facebook is offering “as high as $3 million a year for national news outlets to several hundred thousand dollars for regional publications.”

Again, that’s if you’re one of the lucky ones.

Speaking of lucky, the question of which 200 publications will be featured in the news tab is worth asking. That Facebook has hired actual humans to curate the section inspires confidence, but, as with many things Facebook, we shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves.

Notably, the Journal notes that “stories from Breitbart might appear” in the news tab. For those unfamiliar with Breitbart (bless your sweet heart), the site is known as a collection of articles soaked in thinly veiled racism and bigotry that even Wikipedia says is unreliable as a news source. But hey, that’s kind of Facebook’s bread and butter.

With the specific sites getting paid by Facebook as of yet not publicly delineated, there is an actual possibility that Facebook might one day pay Breitbart for the privilege (cough) of promoting its articles.

But hey, it’s Facebook’s (news tab) world. We’re all just living in the unfortunate consequences of it.

Paxful CEO Hails Positive Trends in Organization’s African Profile

PEER-TO-PEER FINANCE PROVIDES GREATEST OPPORTUNITY FOR FINANCIAL INCLUSION

As a global digital marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of bitcoin, Paxful has, in its relatively short period of existence, already carved for itself an enviable niche. Operating as a type of escrow service, they keep both parties safe and ensure the integrity of their transactions using blockchain technology. Founded in 2015, the company has offices in New York,  Estonia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines —staffed by more than 160 dedicated employees globally.

The story of Paxful’s rise to become a foremost digital wallet through which thousands of people around the world send, receive, and store bitcoin is in many ways the story of Ray Youssef, the co-founder and chief executive officer, himself. It may be hard for most people who have benefitted from the Paxful direct-trade platform to believe, but there was a time when Youssef was eating out of dumpsters and sleeping on park benches.  His life experience, which saw him go from victim to champion of cryptocurrency trading, embodies the resilient and optimistic character underlying a company that has become one of the world’s biggest peer-to-peer digital currency exchanges. From its early days as a payment provider for small businesses, street vendors, and independent artists, Paxful has had a record of surmounting numerous challenges—among them being the apathy and incomprehension of the general buying and selling public, even in its home country, the USA, along with maximizing opportunities whenever they presented themselves.  It is this same sense of what is possible, this tenacity and belief—especially when circumstances seem to be at their most daunting—that is driving Paxful’s foray into the African marketplace, a venture which, so far, is yielding dividends beyond the imagination of even the most optimistic of Paxful’s legions of exponents and clients.

In a recent conversation, Ray Youssef addressed these opportunities, emerging possibilities, and the capacity of cryptocurrency trading to radically transform African economies.

One of the most positive features of Paxful’s operations in the African marketplace, he says,  is the ability of cryptocurrency to operate outside the existing structure of financial institutions—a situation which makes this medium extremely valuable to the unbanked, i.e. people who don’t have a bank account for depositing or sending money. Added to that is the fact that cryptocurrency is far less volatile compared to the fiat currency of some countries that experience high inflation on a periodic basis, driving market uncertainty, which is inimical to progress. This is an advantage that has become apparent to the company’s user base of over 2.5 million customers all over the world, who are able to trade thousands of bitcoin a month, which moves millions of dollars through the Paxful site on a regular basis.

Youssef believes that African markets, by their very nature, are in great need of the financial fluidity that cryptocurrencies have to offer. For example, the average African user of Paxful’s services (and especially ones that run small independent businesses) uses bitcoin as a means of payment. This is unlike their counterparts in the West, who see it purely as a store of value and a way of investing and growing their wealth. As has been the case with other disruptive financial technological innovations, Africa is currently leading the peer-to-peer financial revolution thanks to widespread enthusiasm, especially among the young and upwardly mobile who are tired of being frustrated by a system in which financial institutions are not easily accessible. The peer-to-peer finance system which Paxful embodies provides an opportunity for financial inclusion. Additionally, this system provides for a much lower barrier to entry into the bitcoin market—this is in contrast with traditional currency markets that involve various intermediaries, such as banks.

He goes on to say that nowhere else in the world has this trend gained greater momentum than in Nigeria, which has emerged as the biggest market of any country in terms of the number of Paxful users—a growth which mirrors a general trend across the continent. His organization, Youssef discloses, has learned much from Africa’s young consumers, who are on record as having the most connected 3G population on the planet. For now, Youssef admits, Paxful is playing catch-up trying to meet the growing demand by improving its own mobile capabilities to cater to the widespread use of smartphones throughout the continent.

“We are observing a new generation of young African graduates and professionals making use of peer-to-peer finance as a way to better engage the global financial system,”he says with satisfaction, adding that this phenomenal growth in recent years has largely been driven by users in the 18-30 age group. Paxful, he reiterated, is set to match their commitment to bettering lives and improving communities through education and providing access to global financial services. “We aim to empower the ‘little guys’ in any way our platform can provide,” he assures. He cites the Paxful Affiliate Program, a multi-tier program that gives Paxful affiliates 50% of the collected escrow fee for certain of their referred users’ trades on Paxful, as one of such empowerment methods designed to enable anyone, anywhere in the world, to build their own businesses.

The Paxful CEO is not unmindful of the suspicion and negative perceptions (and sometimes outright fear) that have surrounded the emergence of cryptocurrency as a viable alternative in some quarters, including in Nigeria. But it is a phenomenon that, he says, applies to all industries, especially emerging ones like cryptocurrency. While totally understandable (‘because there will always be people who will take advantage of you,’ he says), he advises cryptocurrency users to make sure that they do their research and all necessary due diligence first, in order to find out what exchange provides the services they need. “Avoid ‘too good to be true’ crypto investment opportunities,” he warns, adding that given the proliferation of scammers these days, you can only protect yourself when you are equipped with the knowledge needed to avoid them. Paxful encourages, and at certain trading levels, requires its users to submit to KYC (Know Your Customer) verification. KYC  is the process by which customers’ information is obtained to verify their true identities, ensure they are who they claim to be, and that they are legally allowed to conduct trades on the platform. Paxful also has a number of other functionalities implemented on the platform to keep users safe.

There is a type of escrow service that works by safely keeping your funds in a deposit account to protect both the buyer and the seller, locking the bitcoin until the payment has been successfully made by the buyer and received by the seller. This helps keep the transactions more secure by keeping the payment safe until all the terms have been met.

They have well-trained customer support available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help users.

A dispute button helps users when they see or suspect that something is going wrong with their trades or when they do not go as planned—in which case a moderator intervenes to settle the trade.

‘Two-Factor Authentication’ (2FA) is also useful, Youssef says. With 2FA, users play a role in keeping their own accounts safe. Activating a 2FA on one’s account can be done through SMS text message or via Google Authenticator, which he recommends above other methods.

Youssef has also decried the ‘uncertain legislation’ prevalent in many jurisdictions in Africa. “We still don’t know the government’s position on crypto assets—if they will be considered assets similar to fiat and will be allowed to be traded and mined freely, or if any ownership and transactions will be forbidden.” He would like to see smarter regulation that accommodates the need of young Africans for financial independence, which is manifested in the side hustles they are engaging in and the remittances they are making on a daily basis. “Africans are using cryptocurrency to satisfy both personal finance needs and entrepreneurial ventures,” he says, adding that there is an emerging generation of Africans buying crypto as investment vehicles into promising blockchain startups, with a relatively small number of them already trading digital currencies speculatively for profit.

Beyond helping Africans make and trade money in a more seamless manner, as well as enabling them to engage more profitably with the global economy, Paxful and its founders have a passion for giving back to society in a way that empowers the vulnerable among us and makes a real difference in their lives. He is already spending a lot more of his time and resources working with charities. Youssef notes with satisfaction that many of these charities are accepting bitcoin donations, which enable them to gain easier access to money in local currencies through Paxful trading.

It is an initiative called #BuiltWithBitcoin, which has facilitated the construction of educational institutions in many parts of the world, including Africa—with more planned for Nigeria very soon. #BuiltWithBitcoin, which was launched with a sizable donation by Paxful to a volunteer-driven charitable organization that builds wells and schools in a number of Middle-Eastern and African countries, is just one of the charities that Paxful and its founder have focused on.

“I encourage people to get behind #BuiltWithBitcoin,” he says, adding that Paxful is looking forward to partnering with organizations that are willing to help broaden the#BuiltWithBitcoin initiative in Nigeria, as well as with potential Nigerian ambassadors of the brand, who would hold workshops and spread awareness of peer-to-peer finance among the populace.

Disgraced NFL star, Antonio Brown is set to file a record nine grievances against the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots in his attempt to recoup $61 million in salary guarantees he lost when he was fired amidst his rape accusations.

According to ESPN, Brown and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) will file nine grievances and appeals, which is the most ever by a single player at one time. Brown’s demands include $29 million in salary guarantees that were voided by the Raiders before he was released in Oakland on September 7. He is also seeking his full $9 million salary bonus and $1 million in salary guarantees from the Patriots, among other demands.

The list of issues includes:

• Salary guarantees (Raiders) for $29 million

• Option year, 2020: (Patriots) for $20 million

• Signing bonus (Patriots) for $9 million

• Signing bonus (Raiders) for $9 million

• Salary guarantee (Patriots) for $1 million

• Unpaid Week 1 salary (Raiders) for $860,000

• Fine appeals (Raiders) for $215,000

• Unpaid Week 3 salary (Patriots) for $64,000

In addition to those eight, Schefter says a ninth one could come if the NFL ends up suspending Brown over the sexual assault and sexual misconduct allegations from two different women.

Uganda Bans Wearing of Bobi Wine’s Signature Red Beret in The Country

Authorities in Uganda have declared red berets and tunic as official military uniformessentially banning the uniform of opposition leader Bobi Wine and his supporters.

This was announced on Monday, September 30, in a gazette notice outlining what constitutes military clothing.

“The dress code for the UPDF (Uganda People´s Defence Forces) has been gazetted. The action was endorsed by the top organs of the army which also commended the dress committee for concluding the task assigned to it years back,” army spokesman Richard Karemire said in a statement.

It manifests the commitment to define identity and outlook of a professional army as well as adhering to the EAC (East African Community) protocols,” he added.

The surprising announcement comes months after the pop star announced that he would be running for president against longtime leader Yoweri Museveni in 2021.  Bobi Wine made the red beret his signature, calling it a “symbol of resistance” but now the red colour beret has been included in Uganda’s first ever gazette of all military clothing.

It was also stated that any member of the public found in possession of the items “is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years.”

Reddit changes its harassment policy and bans major incel community

Reddit is taking bullying and harassment on its website more seriously.

In a post on Monday, Reddit that it was broadening its policies when it comes to threats made on the site. Specifically, it has significantly revised what constitutes bullying and harassment.

According to the new policy, Reddit defines behavior in violation of these rules as “anything that works to shut someone out of the conversation through intimidation or abuse, online or off.” This is a huge update from the previous rules that defined bullying and harassment as putting an individual in “fear of their real life safety” or so that a user “no longer feels that it’s safe to post online.” In the announcement, the company points out the inadequacy of a policy that set a “high bar of users fearing for their real-world safety to qualify.”

Reddit also says that bullying and harassment do not have to be “continued” or “systemic” to qualify under its new policy.

“Being annoying, downvoting, or disagreeing with someone, even strongly, is not harassment,” states the site’s new policy. “However, menacing someone, directing abuse at a person or group, following them around the site, encouraging others to do any of these actions, or otherwise behaving in a way that would discourage a reasonable person from participating on Reddit crosses the line.”

These new rules don’t just apply to individual users, either. Communities, known as subreddits, will have to adhere to these policies too.

In addition, Reddit will no longer require that the victim of bullying and harassment report the offending user or subreddit. The company will now investigate reports from bystanders too. (It’s pretty incredible that it wasn’t already looking into third-party reports of harassment.) Machine-learning tools will also be deployed to help sort urgent reports.

Reddit also banned a number of subreddits in the wake of these changes, most notably r/Braincels. The subreddit was home to a large online community of so-called involuntary celibates or “incels.” The incel movement, with its violent misogynistic rhetoric, is no stranger to being from Reddit or other online platforms. Most recently the U.S. military issued a warning regarding from incels planning to target the upcoming film, .

With the broadening of any rules comes some grey area. The post was inundated with comments from users seeking clarifications on what exactly classifies as harassment. One user asked whether this was a one strike policy (according to Reddit’s response, the company will look at the “severity of the infraction” and whether the person is usually a “good user”). Others wondered if subreddits dedicated to calling out bad behavior from the site’s users would fall under these rules.

The new policy looks to be a step in the right direction, though.

Sowore: This Government Has Shown A Disgraceful Level of Disregard For Democracy And The Rule of Law – Falz

Nigerian rapper, Falz has called out the President Buhari led administration over what he calls ‘a disgraceful level of disregard for democracy and the Rule of Law’.

Reacting to the new court ruling that remanded Omoyele Sowore in DSS custody, Falz wrote, ‘this government has shown a disgraceful level of disregard for democracy and the Rule of Law’.

He went on to say, ‘the Court has ordered that Sowore be released but our government of the day has refused to obey the court. This man has been detained for over 50 days, obviously without any conviction. Despicable behaviour. Very very shameful’.

China celebrates 70 years of communist rule [Slideshow]

The People’s Republic of China celebrate its 70th anniversary amidst draconian security measures and with Chinese living in Hong Kong and Taiwan protesting or ignoring the celebrations.

Tense security measures include a ban on in-house cooking on gas and a prohibition on the sale of knives. All flying objects – kites, balloons, drones – are grounded, and pigeon breeders have to keep their feathered friends inside.

According to the Hong Kong-based Apple Daily, hospitals in the Chinese capital cannot receive new patients this week, and major surgery is to be postponed until celebrations are over.

Since the end of August, traffic inside Beijing’s Second Ring Road has been restricted, mail and parcels are being scrutinised, known dissidents are “sent on a holiday” or otherwise confined to their homes. Last week was especially tense when the People’s Liberation Army held three consecutive days of rehearsals for the grand military parade that is planned on the central axis of the Boulevard of Heavenly Peace.

National isolation
Never during an October 1 celebration has security been so tight. One exception may be the 40th anniversary of the PRC, when Beijing was still under martial law, three months after the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown.

At that time, China was in international isolation as a result of western sanctions. The most notable of four foreign dignitaries who accepted the invitation was Egon Krenz, then leader of the Eastern German Communist Party, soon to be disbanded.

Tomorrow, there will be 188 military attachés from 97 different countries, and hundreds of other guests.

But China’s 70th anniversary comes at a difficult time for its leader Xi Jinping.

Since March, semi-autonomous Hong Kong has been boiling with anti-China demonstrations, and activists in the territory have branded the 70th anniversary as a “Day of Grief”.

On the global front, an increasingly nasty trade war with the US is taking its toll, while US President Donald Trump is mulling severe new restrictions on investment in China, causing stock markets in Shanghai and Tokyo to fall at the eve of China’s national day. On the home front, an outbreak of African swine fever has sent prices of pork – one of the most popular ingredients in Chinese dishes – skyrocketing.

Chairman Mao
But if Xi Jinping is concerned, he doesn’t show it.

On Monday morning, one day before the anniversary, Xi and other leaders of the Communist Party of China also attended a wreath-laying ceremony to honor national heroes on Tiananmen Square.

A choir of children in crisp white shirts and red scarves sang before Xi approached the Monument to the People’s Heroes — a tall obelisk in the middle of the square — where baskets of flowers decorated with red banners were placed.

“A promising nation must have heroes, and a country with future prospects must have pioneers,” said state-run CCTV in a broadcast of the ceremony, quoting Xi.

#BBNaija: I am Not Responsible For Tacha’s Disqualification – Ex-BBN Contestant Khloe

#BBNaija: I am not responsible for Tacha

Khloe has refuted claims on social media that her Instagram post questioning the integrity of Big Brother might have remotely caused the disqualification of controversial contestant Tacha. Tacha was disqualified form the ongoing BBNaija Pepper dem season, following her faceoff with fellow contestant, Mercy.

Khloe after the faceoff, took to instagram to inquire from Big Brother if the rule book used during her set that led to her disqualification from the show, isn’t the same for the contestants of this season.  Read here.

Hours after her post, Tacha was disqualified. Some people insinuated that Khloe’s post facilitated Big Brother’s decision to disqualify Tacha.

Here is a post Khloe shared on her Instagram page refuting this claim.

I have gotten a lot of Tags and Mentions from some uncultured people claiming someone was disqualified because of my rant earlier.
I am very sure you all are aware I didn’t mention names neither did I tag anyone. I was talking about my own situation, my season and this season in general, yet some persons are saying It was directed at someone.

Tacha wasn’t the only party involved in the situation, if she was disqualified because of my rant then Mercy will also be out!
Since the beginning of this season I have shown nothing but love to this contestant as I was glad she’s one of the people that got in after all the social media drama during her auditions, why will I in turn want to sabotage her stay in the house?

I have come to a conclusion that most of you calling me out are sick hence I will not give any more press to this as it is a waste of highlight. And for those asking if me and kbrule did media runs? If you check you’ll see all the media runs we did with Vandora and Deeone. Please be guided. Peace be unto the ones that mind their business  Happy Sunday
