Real Madrid Close Gap On Barca With Easy Win

Substitute Luka Jovic scored his first goal for Real Madrid since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported 60m euros in the summer

Real Madrid moved within a point of La Liga leaders Barcelona by returning to winning ways with a routine home victory against struggling Leganes.

After Brazilian teenager Rodrygo tapped in, Toni Kroos doubled the tally with a clinical finish about 90 seconds later.

Skipper Sergio Ramos extended the lead with a retaken penalty after his initial effort was saved.

Karim Benzema rolled in another penalty after the break before Luka Jovic opened his Real account with a header.

Zinedine Zidane’s side, who did not play at the weekend after El Clasico was postponed because of civil unrest in Catalonia, made the perfect response to losing at Malaga in their previous league outing.

Madrid started at a high tempo against their city rivals, who earned their first league win of the season against Malaga on Saturday following former Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino’s departure, and there was little doubt about the outcome once once they moved 2-0 ahead after just eight minutes.

Skipper Ramos was rather fortunate to be allowed another chance to score from the spot when Leganes goalkeeper Juan Soriano was adjudged to have moved off his line before saving a weak first attempt.

Although Leganes rallied after the break, the home side always had complete control and two more goals in the final 20 minutes gave a fairer reflection of their overall dominance.

Benzema, who set up the first two goals, deservedly got on the scoresheet himself before his second-half replacement Jovic headed in a pinpoint cross from Dani Carvajal in stoppage time.

Twitter’s new ad policy prompts politicians to call out Facebook

Jack Dorsey took a swing at Mark Zuckerberg, and politicians took note.

On Wednesday the Twitter CEO announced a new policy governing political advertisements — namely, that in contrast to Facebook, his company would no longer accept them. In doing so, he specifically alluded to Zuckerberg’s defense of allowing political figures to pay to spread misinformation. Elected officials, both past and present, seized the opportunity to pile on.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that Twitter’s move was a “good call,” before adding that “Not allowing for paid disinformation is one of the most basic, ethical decisions a company can make.”

Notably, Ocasio-Cortez recently beefed with Zuckerberg over his company’s controversial political ads policy. On Oct. 23, the congresswoman embarrassed the CEO by pressing him on whether his company’s ad policy would allow her to run paid posts falsely claiming Republicans supported the Green New Deal.

His fumbled response was widely mocked, and the entire thing became the stuff of memes.

But the congresswoman from New York wasn’t the only one to get in on the fun. The campaign of former vice president and current primary candidate for the Democratic party nomination for president, Joe Biden, also weighed in on Twitter’s move.

In a statement shared by the New York TimesKate Conger, Biden’s camp used the opportunity to obliquely criticize Facebook.

“[When] faced with a choice between ad dollars and the integrity of our democracy,” read the statement in part, “it is encouraging that, for once, revenue did not win out.”

Oh, and look who else got in on the fun.

“This is the right thing to do for democracy in America and all over the world,” wrote Hillary Clinton. “What say you, @Facebook?”

Of course, not everyone was happy. The campaign manager for Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, Brad Parscale, demonstrated a fundamental lack of understanding of the english language by claiming a policy banning all political advertising on Twitter — regardless of the party running it — specifically targeted Trump.

“Twitter bans political ads in yet another attempt by the left to silence Trump and conservatives,” wrote the tragically simpleminded Parscale.

Dorsey, it would appear, had other thoughts on the matter.

Kevin Hart has spoken out for the first time since undergoing surgery after suffering an accident.

The American comedian revealed in the video shared to Instagram that his “world was changed forever” following the accident.

“I was involved in an accident. My world was forever changed,” read text at the beginning of the video.

The actor was travelling as a passenger in a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when it crashed down an embankment above Malibu in the early hours of 1 September. The accident left him with major injuries and he had to undergo surgery. The driver of the car, Jared Black, 28, and his fiancee Rebecca Broxterman, 31, were also seriously injured in the crash.

Hart says the crash was God’s way of telling him to “sit down”.

Hart said the accident was a “message from God”, adding: “Life is funny, because some of the craziest things that happen to you end up being the things that you needed most.

“In this case I feel that God told me to sit down. When you’re moving too fast and doing too much, sometimes you can’t see the things you’re meant to see.”

He says the accident has given him a whole new perspective on life.

“After my accident, I see things differently… My appreciation for life is through the roof,” he said.

Ramos Nets For 16th Straight Season As Real Cruise

Real Madrid registered their biggest win since Zinedine Zidane’s return as coach on Wednesday as they demolished struggling Leganes 5-0 to move up to second in La Liga.

Karim Benzema was the star of the show, the Frenchman rounding off a superb attacking display with a goal from the penalty spot after Rodrygo, Toni Kroos and another spot-kick from Sergio Ramos had already put Leganes out of sight. Luka Jovic added a fifth in injury-time.

Gareth Bale was absent again as he continues to recover from a calf injury but Madrid hardly missed the Welshman, whose future has again been questioned this week after he was pictured returning to London.

Zidane struck a conciliatory tone when asked about Bale on Tuesday, perhaps because he is likely to need him before the January transfer window and, if he stays, for the rest of the season too.

But Bale’s teammates flourished at the Santiago Bernabeu, albeit against a limp Leganes side, who remain rooted to the bottom of the table after sacking their coach Mauricio Pellegrino last week.

This was not a performance to recommend caretaker manager Luis Cembranos for the job long-term.

Yet there were some impressive Madrid showings nonetheless, not least from Benzema, who has been Zidane’s most consistent performer by far in recent months and now has seven goals already in all competitions.

Rodrygo, the 18-year-old making only his fourth senior appearance, came into Bale’s position on the right and, particularly in the first half, he shone, grabbing an early goal and providing the frightening turn of pace that Bale once offered before injuries took their toll.

Perhaps the only disappointment for Zidane was Eden Hazard, who still appears some way short of his best in a Madrid shirt. There were glimpses of the Belgian’s undeniable brilliance but too many moments of indecision too, that suggest he is still finding his feet, and fitness, at his new club.

Madrid’s victory keeps them just a point behind Barcelona, who thrashed Real Valladolid on Tuesday and pushes them one ahead of Atletico, with a game in hand over their city rivals.

Two goals arrived in the seventh and eight minutes and Benzema provided each of them, first keeping alive Hazard’s cross for Rodrygo to poke home before teeing up Kroos to flick in at the near post.

Leganes looked jaded, without belief or direction, and they fell three down before the interval as Hazard was brought down by Juan Soriano after a superb through ball from Casemiro.

Ramos missed the penalty but was given a second attempt, VAR prompting a re-take for the first time in La Liga after Soriano was deemed to have sprung off his line too early. This time, Ramos made no mistake.

Benzema had gone close with a bicycle kick and the energetic Fede Valverde skied high after Rodrygo had pulled back. Benzema then hit the post after a smart dummy from Hazard before finally, he got the goal he deserved after Luka Modric earned him a spot-kick with a quick turn around Omeruo. Benzema convered and then departed to a standing ovation.

Jovic was his replacement and after having one goal ruled out for offside the Serbian made his mark. Dani Carvajal’s cross offered up a simple header to make it five.

Rashford Stunner Sends Man United Through Against Chelsea

Marcus Rashford stopped a resurgent Chelsea in their tracks as his sensational free-kick fired Manchester United into the League Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

Rashford sent his dipping effort from around 40 metres flying past Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero in the 73rd minute after Michy Batshuayi’s well-taken equaliser.

United, who were at near full-strength, had led at halftime through Rashford’s penalty after speedy Welshman Daniel James had been fouled by Marcos Alonso.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side held out reasonably comfortably to claim a third successive away victory having previously not won on the road since March.

It was United’s second win over Chelsea this season, having beaten them 4-0 on the opening day of the Premier League.

Since then Frank Lampard’s youthful Chelsea side have responded superbly and had won their last seven matches in all competitions to move into the Premier League’s top four.

The draw for the quarter-finals is on Thursday in which United will be joined by Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Leicester City, Everton, Colchester United and Oxford.

Liverpool Beat Arsenal After 10-Goal Thriller

Liverpool’s dramatic penalty shootout victory over Arsenal sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after 10 goals were scored in a thrilling contest at Anfield.

Celebrations broke out in front of the Kop after Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, 20, saved Dani Ceballos’ penalty to seal a 5-4 shootout win.

Divock Origi’s 94th-minute scissor kick sent the game to penalties after Liverpool had twice come from behind to draw level.

Arsenal’s Joe Willock thought he had given his side a memorable victory with a sensational long-range strike in the second half but there was more to come on an unforgettable night at Anfield.

The celebrations were wild from Liverpool’s players at full-time as teenager Curtis Jones coolly thumped the final penalty in off the post to make it five from five in front of the Kop.

Arsenal were minutes away from victory after Joe Willock’s stunning long-range effort had put them 5-4 up, before Origi pulled off what seemed the inevitable in stoppage time.

Liverpool led just once during the match and that was after five minutes when Shkodran Mustafi slid in and diverted the ball into his own net.

Midfielder Mesut Ozil, given just his third start of the season, then set-up Bukayo Saka, whose shot was rebounded in by Lucas Torreira to make it 1-1.

Teenager Gabriel Martinelli continued his impressive goalscoring form, pouncing on a loose ball at the near post before slotting in from Saka’s pass to make it 3-1 to Arsenal.

But Liverpool cut their lead to one goal on the stroke of half-time through James Milner’s penalty after Harvey Elliott – who became the youngest Liverpool player to start at Anfield (16 years, 209 days) – went down in the box under minimal contact from Martinelli.

It took just nine minutes for the goals to start flowing again in the second half, when Milner uncharacteristically gave the ball away in his own area and Ozil teed up Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain fired in an excellent long-range effort for Liverpool and Origi’s smart turn and powerful finish made it 4-4 – all this before Willock and Origi’s late goals left the teams level at 5-5.

Liverpool will find out their quarter-final opponents when the draw takes place at 08:45 GMT on Thursday.

Privacy groups actually side with Uber in scooter data fight

In Los Angeles, a battle’s been slowly brewing between scooter-shares and the transportation department. Now, privacy organizations are taking sides.

Scooter companies like the Uber-owned Jump are not having it with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) data-gathering policies required for operating a scooter company in the city. Back in March, LADOT gave year-long permits to Bird, Lyft, Lime, Bolt, Sherpa, Spin, and Wheels to offer app-based rides on two-wheeled electric vehicles. Uber’s Jump was given a temporary permit.

Uber (and to its credit, Lyft) balked at parts of the permit about data policies. LADOT wanted real-time data as part of its Mobility Data Specification (MDS) system to collect data from the companies, as it was mandated that they “provide real-time information about how many of their vehicles are in use at any given time.” Uber was down to give data about its scooters like it does in other cities like Oakland and Seattle, just not the way LADOT was demanding it.

Earlier this year, the digital rights group Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) wrote to the LA city council, concerned about risking customers’ private information. Lyft sent a letter in April outlining three main issues with the data program. First, the letter discussed sharing customers’ highly granular origin and destination data in real time and their complete route data at the end of their trip.

It also raised concerns with using a third-party to store data which Lyft considered “insufficient safeguards to secure our customers’ information from breach, abuse, and disclosure.” Finally, it noted that LADOT “provided no justification for requiring, collecting, and storing detailed records of every scooter trip.” Uber’s issues lined up similarly and the company held fast to their objections.

Fast-forward to the end of October, and Uber is threatening to sue the LADOT over the data policy it’s still enforcing for scooter-sharing. Meanwhile, LADOT is threatening to suspend Jump’s permit unless the company complies like the other scooter operators have since done.

In a statement on Tuesday, an LADOT spokesperson wrote “To be effective, the department requires reasonable information about the tens of thousands of shared vehicles operated by transportation technology companies that use our streets for profit.”

They went on, “While all other permitted scooter and bike companies are complying with our rules — Uber has repeatedly refused. LA’s requirements have been clear since last November, and Uber agreed to abide by them. By 5 pm Tuesday, we expect Uber to come into compliance or they will face suspension proceedings, which could eventually lead to revocation of their permit.”

Uber shared its own statement on Tuesday: “Jump riders in Los Angeles have a reasonable expectation of privacy in the trip data created from riding on our bikes and scooters. Independent privacy experts have clearly and repeatedly asserted that a customer’s geolocation is personally identifiable information, and – consistent with a recent legal opinion by the California legislative counsel – we believe that LADOT’s requirements to share sensitive on-trip data compromises our customers’ expectations of data privacy and security.”

In the intervening months, the EFF’s stance hasn’t changed. In fact, the group is standing by Uber’s steadfast resistance to what it considers a weak, dangerous, and in some ways illegal data policy — even if it sounds funny for a tech privacy organization to support a company like Uber. But as EFF staff attorney Camille Fischer noted in a Tuesday phone call, “This program is collecting far too much information.” She said the EFF agrees with Uber that “anonymized, aggregated data could be really useful for the city,” but the way the LADOT is going out about it is “kind of terrifying.”

Before permits were even issued last November, the tech advocacy group Center for Democracy & Technology put out a statement of concern with LADOT’s plan for collecting sensitive personal data from riders. That concern hasn’t wavered since and the group is defending Uber’s position on data collection in LA.

Uber submitted a letter Monday to the department after the LADOT informed them about their “non-compliance” on Friday. The letter stated, “We believe that best in class data aggregation methods could deliver LADOT near-real time data – while protecting the identity of Los Angeles residents and our riders.” Uber has been giving LADOT data reports with a 24-hour latency, not in real-time as the permit program stipulates.

It hasn’t come to courtroom blows yet, but Uber is ready to sue the city to defend its data privacy position. Stay tuned.

I Am Not Surprised George Afriyie Lost GFA Presidential Elections, Says Kotoko CEO

George Amoako, the Chief Executive Officer has shockingly reiterated that he is stunned with George Afriyie’s lost during the GFA presidential elections over the weekend in Accra.

The former Ghana FA vice president conceded defeat ahead of the third round of the elections.

George Afriyie was heavily tipped to replace his former boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi but Kurt Okraku shockingly emerged as the winner.

And according to the astute football administrator, when it comes to football elections there is nothing like assurances as in football almost everyone is everybody’s friend so no one will tell you I won’t vote for you.

“There is nothing like assurance when it comes to football elections, we are all friends, so it will be very hard for a delegate to tell you in the face that, I’m not going to vote for you, only a few, everybody will assure you of their vote but that’s where ‘fear’ ‘delegates’ comes in,” he told Atinka FM.

George Amoako, who has been elected onto the Executive Council Board openly declared his support for George Afriyie but was stripped off his voting right by his club.

“I’m not surprised George Afriyie lost most people tipped him to win but you see the ‘fear’ ‘delegates’ slogan, that’s what happened.

“Where the word ‘fear’ ‘delegates’ really exists in football politics and elections,” he emphasized.

Christian Atsu Rules Himself Out Of South Africa Encounter

Newcastle United winger, Christian Atsu, has ruled himself out of Black Stars first two Afcon qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principle next month due to injury according to Sportsworldghana.com

The 26-year-old winger has ruled himself out of Ghana’s two duels in November in order to respond to full treatment.
